About the Author

There are probably only two things you should know about me…

  1. I love writing.
  2. I love Russia.

What? That wasn’t enough? Okay, I’ll tell more for the extra curious ones.

I am a nineteen (EDIT: now twenty-one) year old  that started this blog for a school project… but what began as a simple school project developed into my new passion… the passion of a future journalist. Yes, I am passionate about both Russia and writing, hence the blog. With it, I aim to grow as a writer while writing about my culture, the one belonging to the very enigmatic land of Russia, as Winston Churchill stated, “Russia is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma.”

Well, maybe this blog of mine will help us all delve into this mystery.

If you are reading this, I am eternally thankful. Every new visitor, like, comment, or follower – I do a victory dance, literally consisting of falling off my seat and sort of wiggling on the ground for a while. Yes, I’m a weirdo, aren’t we all?

If you wish to know more about the reasons behind my blog…check out my introductory post Why this blog?

  1. Здравствуйте! I’m a big fan of the Russian singer Витас. From his songs, I started to become interested in Russian art and language. The quote of Issac Levitan “What can be more tragic than to feel ….” is one of my favorite ones. And I also like the songs of Алла Пугачёва. They are so beautiful and graceful! Anyway, I just found your blog today and I’m very excited. I’ve bookmarked your blog. :)) Keep up the good work!
    Thanks!

  3. You know the other day, one of my closest friend from Ukraine tried to pursuade me into learning Russian language. But you know how it is for first timers, who have not much exposure :( If she is to be believed, it would very much help me when am there for the 2018 FIFA world cup :)

Thank you for stopping by. I would be coming around your blog very often as well…
    Been a pleasure :)

    1. Hey, you’re going to the 2018 world cup?! Sweeet. Hopefully you’ll achieve to learn some basic Russian phrases before 2018 ;) You still have a lot of time, lol. Thanks for stopping by – I appreciate it!

    Greetings from Portugal!

  6. Hello! I’m so pleased to have found your beautiful blog! I have a huge admiration for Russia and its rich culture, historical aspects and people, fact which made me start to study the Russian language still in my college days, but I’m a beginner yet…

  7. Don’t tell Canada I said this, but the best Hockey players come out of Russia. As a Detroit native, I’m a huge Red Wings fan from way back. I’m sure if you’re into hockey, it would be hard to forget the Russian 5…
Pavel Bure, Pavel Datsyuk, Alex Kovalev…I could go on all night.

  8. I think this will turn into a passion of mine as well. And I am not gona lie to you once you said you Russian I pictured you exactly like that picture, lol. Hope you stay with us for a long time.

If you want to check out the blog directly here is the link, http://garipla.wordpress.com/ . I also have a Facebook page by the same name. If you dont like my blog enough to follow or my Facebook page at least you have looked.

        1. Sorry, for some reason your comments always go into the spam folder… so I have to rescue them from there! But problem is that I don’t always check the spam folder… I believe WordPress has something against you.. lol

  12. I enjoy dipping into your blog…to open and read one or the other of the posts written before. And either it is about Russian people, баня, квас or smell of the forest back home(scenery from “Долгая дорога в дюнах” just flashed in my mind), they bring back many endearing, colourful and a touch nostalgic memories from those days in the past. Ералаш, 1 tea bag for 2 cups of tea, сметана that goes with everything, дачa…so many details that can’ t not smile about. You have a gift of painting vivid pictures with words, and it is very much enjoyed. Thank you, Inna.

  13. LOL! :) “…literally fall off my seat and sort of wiggle on the ground for a while.” Now that’s funny! I totally get what you are saying about how people view you. If you’ve heard or read anything about the southern U.S., you know how wicked stereotypes can be. I think what is important is how we view ourselves. Write on, lady. Write on!!

    1. LOL thank you! I feel very pleased if I make someone laugh. And yes, that’s why I created this blog – I feel like I have a lot to write about. I really appreciate your comment… and visit :D
P.S. Southern U.S. is awesome. End of story.

  14. It looks like a really special blog here, and I have only dipped in for a minute or two so far, but your intro is superbly dosed, and your attention to detail is exquisite – and can be seen by your Gravatar photo. I am looking forward to really looking through this blog! Thanks.
